In this week’s MCN, Greg chats with Leon Camier as the popular former BSB Champion shares his excited thoughts on becoming Honda team boss in World Superbikes. Sadly, it also signals the end of a what had promised to be a glittering career as a World Championship motorcycle racer…
It was Camier’s domination of the 2009 BSB championship with Airwaves Yamaha that directly led to series organisers MSVR introducing the controversial ‘Showdown’ the following year, ensuring the championship went to the final race meeting of the season in a bid to make the series more entertaining as well as cost effective.
Following such supremacy on a national level and having come so close to winning numerous World Superbike races, the fact Camier never quite made it seems, if anything, unfair and proves how fickle a business motorcycle racing can be. Injuries may have ended the party early but the 34-year-old Englishman now promises to leave his mark on WorldSBK in a very different way.
MCN is available in shops from today, Wednesday 24th February 2021. Not only do we take a look at whose footsteps Camier follows in as a team manager, but also learn how his catalogue of horrendous injuries changed him as a person.
